It was with a great sense of pride in the men and women who put their lives on the line to serve their country that several women from Rocky Mount United Methodist Church decided they would honor the veterans of the church for their service to their country.

On May 29, the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, Tom Taylor and Horace Hayes were the first two veterans to receive a patriotic quilt in appreciation for their service.

Jan Pike set the mood with a musical special “Salute to the Troops” on the piano.

Taylor is a retired Air Force pilot, and his quilt featured airplanes and propellers.

Hayes is an Army veteran.
