The 2016 season for Isabella’s track and field program produced state medalists and four top-five finishes as well as 10 top-10 finishes at the Alabama High School Athletic Association state meet May 6-7 in Cullman.
Isabella’s track team consisted of 25 athletes ranging in age from seventh grade to 11th grade.
Participation in numerous events over the season competing against schools of all classifications prepared the team for competition in sectionals in Montgomery, where Isabella athletes earned 18 medals and qualified 14 students to compete at the state finals, many in multiple events.
Tyler Smitherman earned a silver medal in discus, and Synia Chattman brought home a silver medal in triple jump. Pun Stacy won a bronze medal in triple jump while Hunter Langston scored a bronze medal in 100 meter dash.
In addition to the athletes who earned spots on the winner’s podium, the following students performed well:
•Jordan Campbell, fourth in 100 meters.
•Katelyn Smitherman, fourth in discus and fifth in javelin.
•Hunter Langston, fifth in triple jump and eighth in long jump.
•4×100 girls, sixth in relay.
•Chattman, seventh in long jump.
•Noelle Fjeldstad, sixth in javelin.
•C.J. LeCroy, sixth in javelin.
•Kiara Ford, seventh in triple jump.
•Emily Booth, seventh in shot put and ninth in javelin.
•Stacey, eighth in 200 meters and ninth in long jump.
With all athletes eligible to return next season, coach Rex Littleton said he is excited about the possibilities for the team.
“While the students are young, they now have experience and confidence and should be able to build on that base going forward,” Littleton said. “The future is bright for track and field at Isabella.”
