The Thorsby Fire Department will hold its fourth annual “Movies in the Park” during the month of June.
The event is free to the public, and will show movies of a large projection screen in the park that will be equipped with sound speakers.
According to Phillip Porter, Lieutenant of Crime Prevention with the Thorsby Fire Department, people are encouraged to arrive early in order to guarantee a good viewing spot.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Blankets and picnic baskets are also welcome.
“Summers are hectic, and we just wanted to provide an outlet within the community for families,” Porter said.
There are four movies scheduled this year, and one will be shown on each Friday of the month in June.
The first film is “Woodlawn,” which will be shown on Friday and is sponsored by Thorsby First Baptist Church.
The remaining schedule includes “Auto Good” on June 10; “Little Red Wagon” on June 17; and “Angels in the House” on June 24.
Sponsorship of future movies was not yet known.
“It gives families another chance to be together, and gives them a chance to interact with us outside of an emergency setting,” Porter said. “It allows us to give back as stewards of the town.”
