John Melvin Duke

John Melvin Duke, 92, of Clanton died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born on Saturday, Aug. 18, 1923, in Chilton County, son of the late Benjamin H. Duke and the late Savannah Vickers Duke.

He was a commercial tire salesman.

Surviving are his son, John D. (Debra) Duke of Trussville; daughter, Jerilyn Wear of Clanton; grandchildren, Shaun Wear of Madison, Mark Wear of Clanton, Kelly Duke-Taylor of Birmingham; great-grandchildren, Darren Wear, Dillon Wear, Hailey Wear, Katlyn Wear, Austin Wear, Kate Duke-Taylor; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Jane Duke and Jacqueline Duke; brothers, Lester Duke and Herbert Duke; sister, Frances Duke.

Friends will be received from 10-11 a.m., Monday, May 23 at Martin Funeral Home.

Services will be held Monday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at Martin Chapel with the Rev. Kent Dodson officiating.

Interment will follow in Chestnut Creek Baptist Cemetery in Verbena.
