Solo home run, strong pitching advance Billingsley to championship round

Kenzie Glass’ first varsity home run could not have come on a bigger stage.

Glass sent a solo shot over the fence Wednesday morning at Lagoon Park in Montgomery to help Billingsley advance to the championship round of the Class 1A state softball tournament with a 1-0 victory over Brantley.

The hit was one of only two in the game for the Bears, but BHS pitcher Katyln Childress held Brantley to three hits and no runs.

Billingsley will play at 4 p.m. today against an opponent yet to be determined. The opponent would have to beat Billingsley twice, while the Bears would need only one win to claim the state championship.
