Billingsley softball finished runner-up in the Class 1A state softball tournament after losing twice to Brantley at Lagoon Park in Montgomery on Thursday.

The Bears had momentum entering the championship series, having beaten Brantley 1-0 earlier in the day to help secure a spot in the winner’s bracket.

Brantley’s hitting depth proved to be the difference in both games with the title on the line.

Billingsley lost 4-1 and 5-1, respectively and seemed to have no answer for the heart of Brantley’s lineup.

Katlyn Childress held her own and blew several pitches past opposing hitters throughout the state competition.

Childress finished with a total of 25 strikeouts over the two championship games.

The offensive highlight for Bears, was a home run for Casey Headley that left in a hurry over the right field fence during Game 1.

Catcher Madison Motley, third baseman Casey Headley, center fielder Kelsie Elrod and pitcher Katlyn Childress were each named to the all-tournament team.
