Chilton County High School’s football squad held a scrimmage on Tuesday as a way to showcase what the players have learned throughout spring practice.

The scrimmage was open to the public and pitted the white team against the blue team.

The Tigers doubled their win total during Brian Bradford’s second season as head coach in 2015, and continuing that steady climb is key in his plan for the program moving forward.

“We’re just trying to go out and get better every day,” Bradford said. “The kids have been energetic and they’ve definitely been getting after it.”

A majority of the team will be comprised of upperclassmen, which has allowed Bradford to do more fine tuning and less starting from scratch.

“A lot of them had a late start because they were still playing baseball, but they’ve been able to jump right i

n. It’s been a lot easier with it being their third year in the system,” Bradford said.

According to Bradford, the players who will be seniors this coming season have embraced the new roles expected of them and have shown a willingness to teach and lead.

“Most of these guys have been two-year starters,” Bradford said. “They’ve been with me the whole time, and they just continue to step up.”

It is hard to pick out an area or position battle that lacks playing experience, which provides plenty of expectations for both Bradford and fans of the team.

“We lost a couple of really good players, but for the most part about 80 percent is the same team that we had last year,” Bradford said. “We’ll have a lot of strengths.”
