Ministry prepares to hold banquet

Through the Grace of God Ministries will hold its fourth annual banquet on May 5 at First United Methodist Church in Clanton.
The banquet acts as a primary fundraiser with all the proceeds going toward the food ministry.
“The food pantry is very empty this time of the year,” Volunteer Benefit Coordinator Anne Taddicken said. “People think about it around Thanksgiving and Christmas, but it starts to get bare by the beginning of the year.”
The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the Helen Parish Activity Center. A silent auction will kick things off with dinner scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
Lee McBride will be the guest speaker at the event. He is a Christian comedian that has toured throughout the country.
Jerry, Crystal and Grayson Russell will provide musical accompaniment for those attending the event.
There will be both a silent and live auction, and organizers expect to have the largest selection of items to bid on since it began four years ago.
“It has become a place where politicians and business people attend,” Director Ralph Bingham said. “The who’s who will be there.”
Items up for grabs will include a Japanese maple tree from Quail Hollow Garden, two rounds of golf on the Trent Jones Golf Course in Prattville, as well as several sports memorabilia items and handmade gifts.
“There will be a lot more to choose from than there has been in the past,” Taddicken said. “It just keeps getting bigger and better than ever.”
The price is $320 to reserve a table. Each table seats eight ($40 per person).
