The next year is going to be busy for Chilton County High School quarterback Kendall Davis as he embarks on his senior season.

Davis’ junior season for the Tigers caught the eye of several colleges that have shown interest in his abilities to play at the next level.

James Madison, Missouri, Georgia Southern, Arkansas State, Southern Arkansas and West Florida are the current list of schools that have recruited Davis.

“He realizes the importance of communication,” Kendall’s father, James Davis, said. “You may only get one time to say it, and he’s trying to do it right.”

Kendall Davis made an official visit to James Madison on April 2 to attend the university’s “Junior Day” and also competed in a National Underclassmen Combine on April 10 in Atlanta.

The combine was held for high school juniors and allows an opportunity to showcase their skills by competing in drills against other players at that position.

Davis finished in the top eight among the 60 quarterbacks that participated in the event.

According to James Davis, while at James Madison the coaches expressed interest and would be coming down to further evaluate the quarterback at some point during Chilton County’s spring practice from May 4-May 17.

Last season was Davis’ first at Chilton County High School after transferring from Prattville High School, where he started on the varsity squad as a sophomore and helped lead Prattville to state runner-up in Class 7A.

“There was a lot of expectations if he had stayed at Prattville, but if you work hard, it doesn’t matter what school you’re at,” James Davis said.

Kendall Davis’ mother Carolyn and sister Kensley have been supportive throughout the process.

According to James Davis, Kensley had just made cheerleader for Prattville Junior High prior to the move to Clanton, proving that it has been a team effort for the family and on the field.

Over the summer, Kendall Davis is scheduled to participate in five offseason camps at various college campuses as well as maintaining the summer workout plan that Chilton County head coach Brian Bradford has devised for the entire team.

“He will get a chance to work alongside and meet the coaches face to face,” James Davis said.

He has also been invited to take part in another nationally recognized event for underclassmen that will be held in Dallas or Los Angeles and has featured previous quarterbacks such as Marcus Mariota and Johnny Manziel.

“The only problem with it is that it may fall during exam times, so he may not be able to attend,” James Davis said.

As a former principal, Davis understands the importance of education and that no matter the school one of the first things they ask about is GPA and SAT scores.

According to Davis, he knew that his son had a realistic opportunity once they started receiving letters and emails from schools that they had never contacted prior.

The University of Missouri has invited Davis to attend its Black and Gold Game on Saturday at Faurot Field in Columbia, Mo. with kickoff set for 5 p.m.

“When Missouri contacted him that was quite a step up,” Davis said. “You grow up having season tickets to Alabama and now you could possibly be playing against the seats you used to sit in.”
