A crash on Interstate 65 in Chilton County Thursday morning sent five people to the hospital, after three people were ejected from the vehicle.

Steve Jarrett with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the single-vehicle crash occurred around 10:16 a.m. when the vehicle rolled over on I-65 near the 221 Mile Marker.

Two individuals in the front seat of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts, but the three individuals in the backseat were “unrestrained” and were fully ejected, Jarrett said.

The vehicle was traveling northbound when one of the individuals was ejected across the southbound lanes, one landed in the southbound lanes and one landed close to the vehicle.

One individual was taken by emergency helicopter, and the other four were transported by ambulance to Baptist South.

According to Chilton County E-911, a portion of I-65 was shut down while emergency personnel worked the scene of the crash.

The interstate was re-opened by mid morning.

No additional information was available as Jarrett said troopers are continuing to investigate the crash.
