Thorsby officials are considering three options for a location of a planned storm shelter.
The town submitted an application to the state for the shelter to be installed on Thorsby School property, adjacent to the football field.
Lee Helms with Lee Helms Associates, who is under contract to help with the town’s application, recommended to Mayor Jean Nelson and the Town Council at a regular meeting Monday that a new site be selected.
Issues arose, creating more “red tape,” related to the proposed site on school property, Town Clerk Crystal Smith said.
Officials are now considering property at Sam Bentley Park, behind the old garment factory and behind Mystic Mart fuel station for the location of the shelter.
Once a site is selected, an amended application will be filed. Work can begin only after the state approves the application.
Councilmen Randall Higgins and Glenn Littleton were absent from the meeting.
In other business, the Council:
•Passed an ordinance setting the salaries for the town’s mayor and councilmember positions in advance of the upcoming municipal election in August. The salaries will remain the same.
•Approved minutes from the Feb. 1 meeting.
•Approved paying bills with any necessary transfer of funds.
