One of Jemison’s main thoroughfares is currently undergoing much-needed repairs with repaving of County Road 42.

The resurfacing project, a state-approved project, started on Thursday.

Traffic along County Road 42 has been reduced to one lane of travel, while some of the “rough” patches along the road are fixed.

The Jemison Police Department recommended on Thursday that motorists use County Road 51 or County Road 44 for quicker access to and from Interstate 65 to downtown Jemison.

As of Friday, city officials are unsure how long the project is expected to take, or details about times of delays during the project.

There is expected to be closings of certain portions of the road, but city officials will work to update residents on the dates and times of when to expect delays.

Jemison Mayor Eddie Reed said Thursday that city officials were unaware that the project would begin on Thursday, and were working to find out more information to better inform residents.

“We are happy the project has started, but we didn’t know when it would begin,” Reed said. “We just have to go along with what they tell us, because this is not a city project.”

The project was let out for contract Aug. 28, 2015.

The resurfacing project will be allowed 90 working days to complete the project, according to ALDOT’s website.

The length of the project is 4.341 miles.

The JPD urged motorists traveling on County Road 42 to slow down for construction workers and when traveling on County Road 42.
