All community service-minded individuals are invited to join with the new members of the Jemison Lions Club and attend an organizational meeting at 6 p.m. on Feb. 8 at in Jemison City Hall.

During this important meeting, club leadership positions will be filled with officer elections, and the members will decide on the regular meeting schedule for the club, according to George Head, Lions Central District Governor.

Charter membership applications will continue to be received through late March for those interested in serving with your neighbors as a Lion.

An informational meeting was held Jan. 28, and interest was sufficient to proceed with the New Club Charter process, Head said.

Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with more than 1.35 million members in more than 46,000 clubs in 211 countries.

The Lions’ motto is “We Serve.”

Lions are most widely known for their service work with the vision impaired, providing eye examinations, glasses and surgeries to those who are in need but may be unable to pay.

Additional core areas of service include youth and children needs, feeding the hungry and environmental projects.

Each local Lions club determines the service activities for the club.
