Isabella not only defeated Billingsley 52-25 in front of the home crowd on Monday, but they had fun doing it.

The Mustangs have adopted togetherness and in recent weeks have played with a loose nature on the court.

“We have a good time in practice, which makes a lot of difference,” Isabella head coach Jared Day said. “I try to make it fun for them so that they don’t come out dreading [practice].”

As the season has progressed, it has become evident the growth that Isabella’s continuity within Day’s system.

“A lot of time I don’t even have to tell them what to do between possessions, because they know exactly what to do,” Day said. “They’re definitely getting it.”

That was on display against Billingsley, as the Mustangs struck early and often en route to a 29-14 halftime lead.

Not much changed in the second half. Isabella’s pressure defense continued to create havoc and pounced on the Bears’ offensive woes.

Manufacturing points off of turnovers has become a staple of Isabella this season and that was the case yet again on Monday night.

“We’re not there yet, but we’re definitely head in the right direction,” Day said. “It’s what this group’s been working on for the past four years.”

The Mustangs had a balanced scoring attack. Hailey Underwood had a team-high 11 points while Caley Booth scored nine and Kiara Ford added eight.

Hollann Horton led Billingsley with 11 points to accompany Abby Tindol’s nine points.

“We came out fast and got on them like I wanted to so that we could get some other girls in,” Day said.
