Verbena used a second-quarter onslaught on Friday to win at Fruitdale, 46-14.

The visiting Red Devils (4-2, 1-2) led 6-0 after a two-yard run by Dorrian Parker, but Fruitdale tied the game at 6-all in the first on a 36-yard pass.

The second quarter was all Verbena.

It started with a two-yard run by Tristan Short and Anthony Miller point-after to give the Devils the lead.

Short then scored on a one-yard run that was set up by a blocked punt and recovery by Dillon Walker.

Short passed to Hakeem Underwood for a 51-yard touchdown, and by the time Parker scored on a 16-yard run to make the score 33-6, VHS had scored 27 points in less than 8 minutes of game time.

Underwood stretched the lead to 40-6 by scoring on a one-yard run with less than 2 minutes remaining in the third quarter, and Johnathan Bryant capped off the scoring with a 17-yard run.

Fruitdaleā€™s only second-half score came on a tipped pass interception returned for a touchdown.

Trey McCullough led the Verbena defense with 15 tackles but had plenty of help, as Miller had 11 stops and Dakota Vessicchio had nine tackles.
