A new apartment complex for senior citizens is currently under construction in Clanton near Walmart.

Cobblestone Village Apartments located off of Scott Drive will house 56 units of single story apartments for individuals ages 55 and older.

There will be 28 one-bedroom units and 28 two-bedroom units, according to Gateway Development Company President Tommy Ward.

There will be handicap units and handicap adaptable units available at the complex.

Gateway Management is a consultant for the apartments, with Park Lane Construction out of Birmingham serving as the owners.

The apartments should be completed within the next four months.

Ward said the total cost of the project was estimated to be around $5.3 million.

Although an exact date for when the apartments will be open was not known, Ward said they should be finished within the next four months.

Construction on the apartments began about five months ago.

“There are not many elderly apartment complexes in Clanton,” Ward said. “There is a big need in that area for places for seniors to live.”

Ward said individuals interested in finding out more information about renting an apartment should call (205) 980-3245 or (334) 290-7744.
