A two-vehicle crash Tuesday in Chilton County claimed the life of a Birmingham man.

Michael David Kolarchick, 58, of Birmingham, was killed when the 2000 Volvo tractor-trailer he was driving collided with a 2001 Freightliner, according to a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The Freightliner was driven by Jejuan Powell of Montgomery, authorities said.

Kolarchick was pronounced dead at the scene. Powell was not injured, according to the release.

The crash occurred at 5:20 a.m. on Interstate 65 at the 203 Mile Marker, one mile south of Clanton.

Troopers worked the wreck for much of the morning with both northbound lanes of traffic blocked until around noon.

Northbound traffic was detoured at I-65 Exit 200.

No additional information was available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
