The Chilton County Fraternal Order of Police Smith-Dale Lodge 31 is hosting a charity golf tournament Aug. 22 to raise money for “Operation: Santa Claus.”

The event will be held at the Clanton Country Club with tee time beginning at 8 a.m.

Shane Aldridge, a corporal with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department and member of Chilton FOP, said the event is open to anyone wanting to participate and compete with a four-man team.

“This is not just for law enforcement,” Aldridge said. “This is for anyone wanting to have a good time. If people like playing golf, they are welcome to come.”

The entry fee for the event is $50 per person, which covers two mulligans per player, two carts for the team and entry into the on-course events.

Water and lunch is provided, door prizes will be available, and alcohol will be sold by the Clanton Country Club.

Aldridge said there will be cash prizes for the lowest team gross score and on-course challenges including longest drive and closest to the hole.

All of the money from the event will go toward Operation: Santa Claus, which is designed to provide Christmas to less fortunate families in the community—children who would otherwise have little or nothing to open on Christmas morning.

Over the past several years, Operation: Santa Claus has helped more than 2,000 children enjoy the simple pleasure of opening a gift on Christmas morning.

“We try to help make sure families have things for Christmas,” Aldridge said. “We fed a family one year and when they woke up on Christmas morning, we were able to give them a good Christmas.”

Over the past years, Operation: Santa Claus has been able to help several families have a better Christmas with the ultimate goal of the Smith-Dale Lodge being to help every child in Chilton County have a better Christmas.
