Church news for the week of Aug. 13, 2015

Calvary Independent Baptist Church

We want to thank everyone who attended services this week.

Sunday morning services included a message from Luke 5:33-39 titled “The Old Goats Are Still Around in No Man’s Land.” No man puts a piece of new garment on the old or puts new wine in old bottles, or having drank the old wine straightway desires the new.

Just as religious people with “old goats” religion rejected the message and the messenger in Jesus’ day, as in our day. The dispensations or different administrations in the Bible are widely ignored if not totally rejected by most religions.

Even in 2015, a time when knowledge has increased so much, people perish every day with a lack of knowledge of God’s word. We live in a time when teachers should be abundant, but as we look around, the workers are really very few.

The Bible says to study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Know the past, present and future dispensations in that blessed book.

Sunday night services included a message from Luke 19:1-10 titled “Giving Because We Have Been Given.” We looked at caring for those around us, sharing what has been given to us and looking for that better day that will soon be upon us.

We trust that if you are saved, you are faithfully serving Christ by serving others as a part of his church.

If you are looking for a church to visit, we would love for you to visit with us this Sunday at Calvary. For services and events, check us out on Facebook, Twitter or visit our website at www.cibc-clanton.com.

Pastor Jeff Carroll used John 9:1-12 as the text for his sermon “Jesus Heals the Blind Man.”

As Jesus passed by he saw a man who was blind from birth. This man had never seen anything or anyone, not his mother and father or his brother and sisters.

We are born blind too. You may be thinking how that can be. Each of us is born spiritually blind. We can have the same experience as the blind man through the repentance of our sins and salvation by grace. Many people are blind and on their way to a devil’s hell.

The disciples asked Jesus what sin the man or his parents committed to cause him to be blind? We think we have to know the reason that everything happens in our lives. Well, news flash: We do not. God’s ways are not our ways; God’s thoughts are not our thoughts.

Jesus answered and said, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but it happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. I must work the works of him who sent me while it is yet day the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world I am the light of the world.”

Jesus spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva, and then anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. He told the man to go wash in the pool of Siloam, and the man returned with sight.

The neighbors asked how his eyes were opened and he told them.

We can relate this to God creating Adam from the dust of the earth and breathing life into him. It’s amazing.

No one has to tell you that you are saved. You know you are saved because you were there; you just have to have a convicted heart.

What is your testimony? What has Jesus done for you? Go tell it. Has Jesus saved you? Go tell it. Has Jesus performed a miracle in your life? Go tell it. Has Jesus healed you? Go tell it. Until you have an encounter with Jesus, you cannot have a relationship with Jesus.
