Chilton County’s Relay For Life effort raised a total of $102,761.03 for cancer research, organizers announced.
“Our Relay for Life event provides hope for so many people who have been touched by cancer,” Jeannie Smith with the local Relay effort wrote to sponsors in a letter. “Because of your support, the American Cancer Society can help save lives by funding groundbreaking research, providing education and prevention support, and free information, programs and services for people with cancer in our community. We are grateful for your sponsorship and hope to count on you again next year!”
Sponsors included: Alabama Power, Auto Collision Repair, Baptist Health Center Jemison, Baptist Health Prattville, Chilton Urgent Care, Chilton County Senior Connection, Ellison Memorial Funeral Home, Connell’s Pest Control, Key Properties, Dr. Jani, Highland Baptist Church, Hayes Drug and Gifts, Fred Headley Foodmart, Piggly Wiggly, Marion Bank and Trust Company, Wadsworth Oil, Todd’s Pool and Construction, Stokes Automotive, Southcrest Bank, San Marcos Mexican Restaurant, Petty Line, Peoples Southern Bank, Parnell Inc., Outdoor Rental House and Sales, Orell’s Beauty Shop, Martin Funeral Home and MorLyn’s.
Smith said organizers would like to thank these sponsors and encourage citizens to thank them by shopping locally with them.
Smith said a committee interest meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m. July 14 at the Alabama Power Conference Center.
“We are looking for new committee members to work with us on fighting against cancer,” Smith said. “We’d like to invite anyone who has thought about wanting to get more involved in Relay For Life to come to the interest meeting, bring a friend, find out what is involved in serving on the committee and join us in working together for a cure.
“This will be a great opportunity to learn what the American Cancer Society is able to provide to cancer patients and their families through funds raised by our local Relay for Life event. We encourage anyone with interest to come out to the meeting.”
Relay For Life is the largest cancer support group in the world. It unites 4 million people in 23 countries to celebrate survivorship.
