Organizers of Jemison’s Got Talent hope to bring the community together on June 12 at 6 p.m. at the Jemison City Hall Municipal Complex.

“We just really hope that people throughout this county, regardless of where they live, can come together,” said one of the event organizers Cheryl English. “It will not only be an opportunity for people to showcase their talents, but also a time where we can all just come together and have a good time.”

English said the event is not limited to Jemison residents, but anyone living in Chilton County or in neighboring counties is welcomed to participate.

“We are open to singers, magicians, dancers, ventriloquists, comedians, pianists, twirlers, bands or really anything,” English said. “We do ask that everyone remember that this will be a family-friendly show so it should be a talent that is acceptable for all ages.”

Registration is open to anyone, and there will be three age divisions consisting of ages 4-12, ages 13-17, and ages 18 and older.

County music artist Marty Brown, who was the Season 8 semifinalist on America’s Got Talent, will also perform.

Brown has released four albums with MCA record company and eight videos for CMT television.

He has toured with such acts as Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson and Hank Williams Jr.

After his recording years, he started writing hit songs for artists such as “I’m From the Country and I Like It That Way,” for Tracy Byrd and the class country tune, “When I Stop Loving You,” for Trace Adkins.

English said the idea for the event came about when Brown stopped by Jemison City Hall earlier this year to visit his longtime friend Shane Fulmer, who is Jemison’s police chief.

“He came by one day to see Shane and just really meshed with everyone at City Hall,” English said. “He met Mayor Eddie Reed and the two of them just really hit it off. He was here for several hours that day, and we just decided to have a fundraiser event with Marty Brown performing.”

All proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of curtains for the stage in the Municipal Complex.

“We really need a way to complete our stage area,” English said. “We would like to be able to put up curtains where we can have the ability to perform plays and productions, and we thought this would be a great way to raise the money.”

A cash prize will be given to the winner along with an opportunity to perform the talent at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting. The winner will also serve as the grand marshal of the Christmas parade.

The registration fee for individuals is $25 and $50 for a group act. Talent acts must be limited to under 5 minutes.

The cost to attend the event is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

“We just hope the community comes out to enjoy this event,” English said. “Marty Brown is someone who is a lot of fun to watch, and he is a wonderful musician. He is just very down to earth and I think a lot of people will enjoy seeing him perform.”

A mandatory rehearsal prior to the event will be held, but the date of the rehearsal will be decided later this week.

Anyone interested in participating can register by completing a registration form at the city of Jemison’s website www.jemisonalabama.org or by picking up a form at city hall.
