A murder suspect charged for the stabbing death of a Sylacauga woman is behind bars after authorities with both the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department and the Clanton Police Department assisted with the case.
Edmond Jeremiah Woods Jr., 32, who lists an address of County Road 47 in Clanton, was arrested in Selma on May 17 and charged with murder.
He was later transported to the Talladega County Jail where he remains on a cash bond of $500,000, according to a press release from the Talladega County Sheriff’s Department.
The release said the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office received a domestic violence call during the early morning hours of May 16 at 572 Centerhill Road in Sylacauga.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the victim inside the residence had been stabbed, and she was transported to Coosa Valley Hospital.
Authorities believe the victim, Carrie Michelle Ingram, 34, died of stab wounds, according to the release.
Ingram was employed as a Daily Home newspaper carrier, authorities said.
The cause and motives behind the stabbing remain under investigation.
Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon said his department was contacted by the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office about 16-18 hours after the investigation first began.
“We were alerted by the Talladega County Sheriff’s Department that they believed the suspect was in Chilton County,” Shearon said.
Authorities located Woods, who was staying at a residence off County Road 47 in Clanton.
Shearon said it appeared the suspect was trying to “hide out” in Chilton County with an individual the suspect knew who also lived in Clanton.
Woods fled the residence in Clanton, but Shearon said a part-time deputy with the sheriff’s department who also works for the Clanton Police Department was able to track the suspect’s whereabouts.
Authorities were able to locate Woods, who fled to Selma where he was eventually arrested in Dallas County.
“I think at one time there were four sheriff’s offices working this case,” Shearon said. “We were happy to help out, and it was a joint effort of multiple departments.”
The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office, the Clanton Police Department, and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office for their help during the investigation.
Woods was charged with murder on Tuesday, and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 6 at 1 p.m. before Talladega County District Judge M. Ryan Rumsey.
