A leadoff home run by Kassidy Wilcox started the bottom half of the second inning, and things would only get worse from there for the Mustangs.

A single, error, bunt, and another Isabella error led to two more Brantley runs and left two on with no outs. Jones struck again for the Bulldogs with a two-run triple, and a sacrifice fly to left resulted in a six-run inning for Brantley, which held a 7-0 lead after two innings..

After going in order through the top of the third inning, Cox and the Isabella defense returned the favor in the bottom half of the inning by sitting the Bulldogs down in order.

The Isabella softball team includes: Trinity Cox, Alexis Owens, Caley Booth, Taylor Ray, Kacie Adams, Whitley Smith, Britney Burnett, Alexia Parker, Alyssa Wyatt, Jayda Jones, MaKaela Littleton, Carmelina Fjeldstad, Sophie Underwood, Vivian Atchison, Hailey Underwood, Katelyn Smitherman, Mackenzie Ratliff, Tori Fletcher, Edith Smith, Emily Booth, Chandler Kirkland, Maggie Noah and Chelsea Cox.

The three-up, three-down inning was the last for Cox on the mound as five complete games on the weekend along with three innings in the championship game resulted in a sore throwing arm for the Mustangs’ ace.

A walk by Adams and a single by Cox gave the Mustangs their first scoring opportunity of the game, but a strikeout followed by a Fjeldstad walk and a groundout brought the scoring threat to a close and kept Isabella in a 7-0 hole.

The Mustangs called on Jones to take over the pitching duties in the top of the fourth inning, and she picked up where her teammate left off by sitting down the Bulldogs in order.

A lone single by Caley Booth was all the offense for the Mustangs in the top of the fifth inning, and with a three-run bottom half of the inning by the Bulldogs (33-10), the game was called on the 10-run mercy rule.

Adams, Booth and Cox were all named members of the All-Tournament team.
