Two men arrested after rash of thefts in Clanton

Two men were recently arrested in Clanton on burglary and theft of property charges for a rash of thefts off Holiday Inn Drive.

On May 3 at 9 a.m., the Clanton Police Department responded to Days Inn, located off Holiday Inn Drive, on a report of a breaking and entering a motor vehicle, according to a release from the Clanton Police Department.

Authorities determined there had been a rash of thefts in the area from vehicles and a burglary on Holiday Inn Drive, the release said.

Information was received that Justin Cleckler, who was staying at Days Inn, may have been involved.

Patrol officers followed up on the information to contact Cleckler in his room. Inside the room, officers observed several items that had been stolen, the release said.

The subsequent investigation concluded that Cleckler and Michael Edwards were involved in the crimes being investigated.

Cleckler was charged with two counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property first degree, theft of property first degree, theft of property second degree, burglary third degree, theft of property third degree and criminal trespassing third degree.

Cleckler was placed in the Chilton County Jail and given a bond of $41,500.

Edwards was charged with resisting arrest and receiving stolen property first degree. He was given a bond of $10,750.
