Isabella’s softball team dominated the Class 1A South Central Regional Tournament last week, defeating Billingsley 2-0 in the championship round and outscoring opponents 33-3 in three games overall.

The tournament, which was held in Troy, was a success for Billingsley also, as the Bears defeated Wadley 10-0 to claim second place in the event.

Both Isabella and Billingsley advance to the state tournament, which will begin Wednesday at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

Billingsley will play South Lamar in the first round, while Isabella will play Ragland. Both games will begin at 9 a.m.

The schedule for the two local teams the rest of the double-elimination tournament will depend on how they fare.

When Isabella played Billingsley on May 8, the defensive struggle heated up in the top of the fifth inning, as Isabella runners occupied second and third bases.

Hailey Underwood hit a double, scoring one run and bringing the score to 2-0.

Chelsea Cox got the win on the mound for Isabella, overpowering the Bears’ offense and leaving them scoreless.
