Billingsley baseball advances to next round

Billingsley used two big innings to get past Verbena, 10-6, on Monday in the final round of a best-of-three baseball playoff series.

The Bears will visit Ragland on Friday for the quarterfinal round of the Class 1A state playoffs.

All of Billingsley’s damage on Monday was done in the fourth and seventh innings.

BHS took a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning. With the first two batters of the frame being put out, Dylan Chavers, Hunter Godwin, Kendall Elrod, Eric Willis, Jarrett Acreman and Dalton Davis all reached base safely and scored.

Verbena cut the lead to 6-3, but the Bears put the game away with four more runs in the seventh inning.

Tyler Powell started things off with a walk, and then Thomas Nichols doubled. Godwin drove in the final run of the game for Billingsley.

Nichols, Willis and Acreman all went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Chavers and Godwin scored two runs. Davis had two runs batted in, and Willis had three RBI.

Taylor Deavers and Adam Heflin both went 2-for-4 for Verbena.

Christian Agee and Quandarius Ray scored two runs each. Heflin had two RBI, and Deavers had three RBI.
