Isabella’s Future Farmers of America group has been selected as a semi-finalist for the Opal Youth Make a Difference grants.

Isabella FFA was selected in the top 25 of 100 applicants from across the country and is now moving on to the next round of judging for a planned county farm project in Thorsby.

The grant would be for $10,000, which would be used to purchase equipment.

“I am asking everyone to go to opalapples.com/voting and vote for us to make it into the top 15 for the next round of voting,” said Landon Lowery with Isabella FFA. “You can only vote one time, so spreading the word will be important. Only one vote per person is allowed so sharing is going to be important for us to win.”

Voting began April 15 and lasts through May 15.

At the close of the voting period, seven programs will be selected to receive grants based on a combination of number of votes and how projects meet Opal’s criteria. All final grant recipients will be notified by June 1.

As of Thursday, “Chilton County Joint Agriscience Farm” was in second place with 12 percent of the vote.
