The town of Thorsby approved a schedule on Monday for the annual Movies in the Park series that will begin May 22.

The Thorsby Fire Department presented a tentative movie schedule to the council for the movies to be shown the first Friday of June, July and August in addition to the May 22 movie.

In the past, the movies have been shown every Friday of each month, but this year there will only be four films shown.

The films will be shown on a large screen in the town’s Richard Wood Park, and will begin at dark, about 6:30 or 7 p.m.

The movies are free to anyone who would like to come. The Thorsby Fire Department organizes the events, and attendees of the event are asked to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs.

Typically all movies shown at the park are rated G or PG.

Town Clerk Crystal Smith said the lineup of films has not been finalized, but should be within the next couple of weeks.

The council also approved for the fire department to purchase two sections of five-inch fire hose, which will cost around $1,200 for both hoses.

A resolution was approved for the Municipal Water Pollutions Prevention (MWPP) to be sent to ADEM.

Howie McNeill, the town’s auditor, also presented the town’s financial report for 2014.

The council also approved to transfer and pay the bills and approved the council minutes from April 6.
