Clanton native Randall Atcheson will perform a piano and organ concert at the East Lake United Methodist Church in Birmingham at 2:30 p.m. on April 26.
The concert is a benefit to provide needy children with scholarships to attend summer camp at Camp Sumatanga in Gallant.
Atcheson will perform on the church’s magnificent organ, which is uniquely built and well-known in Birmingham. Most of the program will be piano selections of classical, sacred, popular and patriotic music, a variety that is sure to please every listener.
On Dec. 2, 2014, Atcheson performed his 12th Carnegie Hall piano concert in New York City and on March 14, he performed an organ concert at the famed St. Clotilde Basilica in Paris, France. Since growing up in Clanton and finishing Chilton County High School, his life in music has taken him to five continents.
He is noted as the only student in the history of the Juilliard School of Music in New York to pursue and receive simultaneous degrees in piano and organ performance.
He was the winner of the first Juilliard Organ Competition and subsequently gave the premier performance on the new pipe organ in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.
As always, he is sure to tell stories of his years in Chilton County and give the audience an afternoon of great keyboard artistry, inspiration, laughter and musical pleasure.
Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at the event or by calling (205) 836-3201. The church is located at 7753 First Ave. S. in Birmingham.
