Apollos Abercrombie, a graduate of Maplesville High School, was recently awarded the Samford Scholarship by Auburn University.
The W. James Samford, Jr. Foundation funds this scholarship. It awards $10,000 to one rising senior at Auburn University. It provides a stipend to help the student continue his education as well as incorporate life experiences. From the 300 applicants, four were chosen for a final interview. From this small pool of candidates, a committee selected Apollos.
“We are extremely proud of Apollos and his contribution to Auburn University. He shows faithfulness to Auburn University in his studies and in his daily life. My brother would be very pleased with Apollos being the recipient of this scholarship,” said Lucinda Cannon, president of the Foundation.
The Foundation was set up at the death of Mr. Samford, an Opelika native. After he was graduated from Auburn University, he attended law school. His practice of law carried him from Washington, DC, to Montgomery. He was appointed to the board of trustees at Auburn University and served there with distinction.
Abercrombie thankedGod and all of those who have supported him so far including his family, friends, his church (The World’s Church of the Living God in Clanton, The Samford Foundation, former teachers, and former coaches.
Most importantly, he would thanked his parents, Ray and Blynda Abercrombie.
