Maplesville takes baseball wins

Six errors by the opposing Holy Spirit Titans and 11 hits from the homestanding Red Devils led to an 11-0 win by Maplesville on Friday evening.
A walk to Jackson Kapera gave the Titans a base runner early in the first inning, but back-to-back ground balls to the Red Devils infield brought the top of the first inning to a close.
The Red Devils fared much better than their opponents in the home half of the inning, as they batted around on their way to a three-run inning.
Thomas Schoener started things off with a double to left field, and a double by Alex Smith scored Schoener for the first run of the game.
Smith scored on a Titans’ error on a ground ball hit by Trevor Wallace, and Wallace scored on another Holy Spirit error on a fly ball to right by Devan Wallace.
After one inning, the Red Devils led 3-0.
Three strikeouts by Red Devils pitcher Alex Smith ended the top half of the second inning, while Maplesville tacked on one more run in the bottom half of the inning when John Schoener scored on a single by Trevor Wallace.
The Red Devil defense again retired the Titans in order in the top half of the third inning, while five more runs went on the board for Maplesville in the bottom half of the inning.
Nathan Bush started the inning by reaching on a Titans’ error, and another error on a infield ground ball off the bat of Aaron Dunkin brought Bush in to score.
Dunkin advanced to second, and after Dunkin stole third base, a wild pitch resulted in another Red Devils run.
Walks to Adam Harrison and Thomas Schoener brought Harrison in to score on a double steal.
A John Schoener double scored Thomas Schoener, and John Schoenerlater scored on another Titans error on a ground ball from Trevor Wallace.
After three innings of play, Maplesville led 9-0.
Another three-up, three-down inning for the Titans set up a two-run bottom of the fourth for the Red Devils.
A Devan Wallace double to right field led to Wallace later scoring on a wild pitch. A walk to Andrew Smith led to an RBI single by Trevor Wallace to give Maplesville an 11-0 lead.
One last three-up, three-down inning by the Maplesville defense gave the Red Devils the win.
John Schoener, Alex Smith and Devan Wallace all went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Maplesville.
Alex Smith pitched three innings, while recording four strikeouts, a hit and a walk.
