The Chilton County Chamber of Commerce recently sponsored a ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand opening of AT&T Prime Communications in Clanton.
“We are really excited to be open and provide services for those living in Chilton County,” store manager Matt Smith said.
The store, located on Woodfin Lane across the street from Chilton County High School, opened Dec. 1, 2014, but decided to hold an official grand opening in February.
Smith said AT&T has been working to provide more coverage in Chilton County in recent years, and part of that expanded coverage was providing a store for customers to be able to shop.
The store offers products such as smartphones, Internet, U-verse, tablets and many other items.
The grand opening was held from 4-7 p.m. on Feb. 6 with free food and different prize incentives for customers interested in purchasing some of the products.
In 2013, Alabama AT&T President Fred McCallum announced a plan for improved cell phone coverage in Chilton County.
McCallum said during his announcement in 2013 that AT&T had a $1.4 billion investment in Alabama wireless and wireline networks with a focus on expanding 4G LTE (long term evolution) mobile Internet coverage and enhancing the overall performance of its networks in Chilton County.
At the time, McCallum said AT&T would be hiring in Alabama with hundreds of jobs available in the state with many of the jobs being retail store employees.
“We just want to let the community know we are here,” Smith said.
The Clanton location is open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
