Thorsby, Maplesville boys basketball fall in sub-regionals

The Thorsby Rebels boys basketball team took to the road in AHSAA Class 2A sub-regional competition Tuesday, traveling to Cleveland High School to take on the Panthers.

Unfortunately for the Rebels, the Panthers made the most of home court advantage, taking a 75-37 win.

The Rebels kept it close early, ending the first quarter down, 12-9.

The squad continued to battle over the course of the second quarter, with the Panthers taking a 28-23 lead into halftime.

The Panthers began to pull away in the third quarter, taking advantage of Rebel turnovers to increase the lead to 48-29 at the end of third quarter.

The Panthers took control in the fourth, taking a 75-37 win.

Brock Higgins led the squad with 17 points, while Gray Bice had nine points and Christian Fortner had four points, five blocks and nine rebounds.

With the loss, the Rebels were eliminated from postseason competition.

In other playoff competition:

– The Maplesville boys basketball team fell to Sunshine, 82-50. The loss eliminated the Red Devils from postseason competition.
