Single-vehicle wreck shuts down portion of I-65 northbound

A portion of Interstate 65 northbound near Mile Marker 204 in Chilton County was shut down for more than an hour Tuesday as crews worked the scene of a single-vehicle wreck.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Public Information Cpl. Jess Thornton said authorities responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a Honda Element around noon.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to UAB via ambulance while the passenger of the vehicle was flown by emergency helicopter to UAB.

Authorities did not release the names of the individuals involved in the wreck.

Chilton County E-911 Director Dan Wright said the vehicle left the roadway and overturned.

Alabama State Troopers are continuing to investigate the cause of the wreck.

Traffic on the northbound portion of I-65 was backed up to I-65 Exit 200, while crews worked to clear the scene.

Thornton said traffic was flowing around 1:30 p.m.
