The Isabella girls and Maplesville varsity boys teams picked up much needed area wins on Friday night.

Despite a fourth period push from the Red Devils, the Mustangs held on to pick up the road win, 37-30, in the girls’ contest.

Megan Weaver started the final period with a basket for the Red Devils that was answered by a three-point basket by Sophia Underwood for the Mustangs.

With just 38 seconds to play, six consecutive points by Uptain cut the lead to seven but with the game clock reading all zeros, it was the Mustangs that held on for the win.

Underwood led the Mustangs with 10 points, two rebounds and four steals.

Uptain led the Red Devils with 18 points, four rebounds and two steals.

In the boys’ game, a lopsided first period served as a foreshadowing of things to come, as the Maplesville varsity boys jumped out to an early lead and never relented on their way to a 57-23 win over the Mustangs.

A three-point play by William Harrison and a three-point basket by Jeremy Williams extended the Maplesville lead to six, while baskets by Jaqarise Stacy and Chase Pate made the score 55-21 with 2:46 to play.

Bradley and Pate exchanged baskets with under two minutes to play, bringing the game to its final score of 57-23.

Bradley led the way for Maplesville with 16 points and five rebounds.

Pate led Isabella with 11 points, 12 rebounds, a steal and a block.
