Town to apply for building removal grant
The Thorsby Town Council unanimously voted to allow town engineer Calvin Cassady to apply for a grant for the removal of the old school building on Illinois Avenue in a meeting held on Jan. 20.
The brief meeting was moved from Jan. 19 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.
Cassady was not present at the meeting; instead the message was relayed to the council through mayor Jean Nelson, according to town clerk Crystal Smith.
In other business, the council:
• Voted unanimously to approve the fire department to purchase new fire hoses valued at $700, as well as new tires for the rescue truck valued at $600.
• Voted to renew the contract for Revenue Discovery Systems to collect sales tax for the town.
