Those looking to have a good time while supporting a good cause can look no further than Butterfly Bridge’s “Flutter” event.
The event, which will be held Feb. 5 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Clanton Conference and Performing Arts Center on the campus of Jefferson State Community College, serves as the main fundraiser for the child advocacy group.
“We have two fundraisers each year,” Butterfly Bridge Executive Director and Child Forensic Interview Specialist Jana Zuelzke said. “This is a come-after-work, social fundraiser.”
The event will feature entertainment by jazz musicians The Usual Suspects, heavy hors d’oeuvres and an auction, Zuelzke said.
“We’ll have a silent auctions as well as a live auction,” she said. “Tommy Glasscock will be the auctioneer, and he’s really good and really funny. All money we make goes to keep our doors open.”
Butterfly Bridge serves to help victims of child abuse ages 3-17 receive counseling and support needed, free of charge. Services include forensic interviews (at the request of local law enforcement and DHR), trauma-focused therapy, advocacy services throughout the investigative and court process, expert testimony in court and multi-disciplinary team coordination, Zuelzke said.
“We’re the only child advocacy center in the county that provides these services,” she said. “We started in the county, and there’s been proven a need for it.”
Zuelzke also said the auction will feature a multitude of items, including art and jewelry, as well as a trip to Orange Beach.
“We try to make it a fun social event,” she said. “This year’s format will be very much the same as last year. We’re trying to offer a different form of fundraiser.”
Tickets are $15 for an individual, and $25 for a couple and can be purchased at http://www.butterflybridgecac.org, or at the Butterfly Bridge office, located at 603 2nd Ave. N., Clanton.
