The Chilton County High School boys basketball team fell at home to Calera on Jan. 16, 47-37, in a defensive contest.

The Tigers got out to a hot start, opening up a 7-1 run courtesy of a basket by Keshaun White, as well as a basket and three-pointer by Devin Austin.

Calera’s Terrence Baskin cut the Tiger lead to three points, while a pair of Tyler Henderson free throws gave Chilton County a five-point lead.

After a subsequent Calera basket, Henderson added a point of his own to give the Tigers a 11-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Five unanswered points by Calera opened the second period, and the Eagles tied the game at 13-13 on a basket by Drew Marling.

A pair of free throws by Baskin gave the Eagles a 15-13 lead at the 4:50 mark in the period, and another free throw by Keddrick Thomas gave the Eagles a three-point lead.

Donte Davis added a free throw for Chilton County to cut the Calera lead to two points, but a Baskin basket extend the lead to four.

Garrett Strength cut into the momentum swing by the Eagles with a three-pointer to bring Chilton County to within a point at 18-17.

Marling answered with a three-pointer of his own, and boosted Calera back out to a four-point lead.

Mondez Jones added a Tiger basket right before the half, and the game went to halftime with the Eagles up, 21-19.

Where the Tigers opened the first half with a scoring run, the Eagles did likewise in the second half, as Calera opened with a 6-0 run to take a 27-19 lead with 4:50 to go in the third.

The Tigers countered with a run of their own, as Tolliver Gilliland stopped the streak with a three-pointer with 3:36 left in the quarter.

Henderson chimed in by adding a free throw, and Damian Wilson dropped in a pair of baskets to tie the contest at 27-27 with just over two minutes to go.

Calera went on a 4-0 run to end the quarter, as the Eagles held a 31-27 lead headed into the fourth quarter.

Chilton County cut the lead to 31-29 on a pair of free throws by Davis, as Calera responded with a basket.
Strength once again cut the Calera lead to one with a three-pointer with 4:42 left in the game.

Marling responded with a three of his own, which in turn was answered by a three-pointer from Davis to make the score 36-35 in favor of the Eagles.

Marling added another three-pointer to start a 7-0 run for Claera.

Chilton County cut the lead to 43-35 on a pair Henderson free throws, but a pair of Eagle baskets sealed the contest for Calera, 47-37.

Austin finished with seven points, while Strength and Wilson each posted six.
