The public was invited to a free event at Clanton Family Health, which featured refreshments, games, a bounce house, face painting, goody bags and other entertainment.

Instead of taking her granddaughter Carrie Wingard, 7, to the park Monday afternoon, Dera Wingard thought it would be good to visit an open house and community screening at Clanton Family Health.

“The park was packed today because all of the kids are out of school,” Wingard said. “I thought it would be good to just come here. She [Carrie] has had a lot of fun getting her face painted.”

Wingard was just one of many families who had the same idea to attend a “Be a Health Superhero” open house and community screening from 1-4 p.m. at 107 Medical Center Drive in Clanton.

The public was invited to the free event, which featured refreshments, games, a bounce house, face painting, goody bags and other entertainment.

Superheroes including Batman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and even supervillains like The Joker were also at the event to take pictures with those in attendance.

“We wanted to have a day where we could invite the community to come out and have fun,” Health Services Inc. board member and Clanton Family Health patient Jessie Binion said. “We are so thrilled that God blessed us with a beautiful day.”

The event was held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, when all schools in Chilton County were closed for the day.

“We knew it would be a good day to have this because families could come out and enjoy the day together,” Binion said.

Binion said the idea to incorporate superheroes into the theme came from wanting to have something the children attending the event could relate to.

“Everyone knows about superheroes so we thought it would be a good idea to have them show up today,” Binion said.

Binion said the event was also a time to introduce the community to American Board Certified Pediatrician Dr. Abdulsattar Zidan.

Zidan offered free pediatric screenings at the event including vision, dental, vaccine record review and consultations.

“The vision of having a pediatrician come on board to serve the needs of this community has finally become a reality,” Binion said. “We are so thrilled to have him here.”

Certified Physician Assistant Kendall Roper was also at the event providing free adult screenings including blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index.
