Mara Lynn Williams

Mara Lynn Williams, a resident of Clanton, died peacefully at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery on Dec. 18, 2014, after an 11-year battle with Stage IV breast cancer.

She was 62 years old.

Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Royce Williams and her parents, Glenn and Stan Saunders.

A memorial service will be held Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. at Martin’s Funeral Home in Clanton.

The family will receive friends beginning at 9 a.m. and continue until service time.

After a career that spanned over 26 years of nursing service at Jackson Hospital, Williams retired in September 2014.

She received her BSN from Auburn Montgomery, and throughout her career worked as staff nurse, home health nurse, and case manager.

She had a passion for the mental health field and for years worked with Jackson Hospital’s mental health unit, later becoming the unit manager.

She was especially proud of her participation in a community spirited collaboration to provide better mental health services to the area.

Williams loved reading, gardening, tending to her swarm of humming birds and watching the occasional deer from her front porch.

She was devoted to her sweet beagle Banjo and her two beautiful cats Bobby and Olivia.

Williams is survived by her sons, Robert Bradford (Haydee) and Carlos Williams; her stepdaughter, Kimberly Jones (Charlie) and their son, Tanner; her grandchildren, Mara Bradford and Cody Wells; sister, Alexine Saunders; aunt, Veronica Eustice; mother-in-law, Marie Williams; sister-in-law, Sandy Chadwick (Teddy); their children, Duane Chadwick (Wanda), Cherie Edwards (Denny) and Dustin Chadwick (Kelly); brother-in-law, Jack Williams (Trisha) and their daughters, Leah Seng (Jordan) and Allison (Derek) Morris, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions should be made to Jackson Hospital Foundation, Jackson Hospital, 1725 Pine Street, Montgomery, AL 36106.
