In the last regularly scheduled Chilton County Commission meeting until 2015, commissioners voted Monday to allow a resident to advertise for the closing of a road.
Keith Brooks requested permission from commissioners to advertise for the closure of County Road 441.
It was unclear during the meeting why Brooks wanted the road to be closed.
Brooks explained to commissioners that the road closure would not affect any residents.
Commissioner Shannon Welch made a motion for the commission to allow Brooks to advertise for the road to be closed.
Commissioner Bobby Agee explained to Brooks it is typically the policy of commissioners to not close the road if anyone comes to the meeting and expresses opposition.
Commission Chairman Allen Caton echoed Agee’s explanation and told Brooks if anyone came to the meeting during the public hearing portion for the road to be closed and showed opposition, commissioners would not allow the road to be closed.
Commissioners also heard from Beth Tucker who requested the commission consider waiving a $350 penalty she received for late/incorrect filing of her sales taxes.
Tucker explained to commissioners that the state waived penalties she received, but requested commissioners waive her portion of the penalty she received from the county.
Commissioners unanimously voted to waive the penalty Tucker received.
Chilton County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Derrick Wright introduced Nicholas Bolton to commissioners on Monday.
Bolton was hired to be the deputy director for EMA during the Dec. 8 meeting.
“I look forward to what we can do with the EMA,” Bolton told commissioners. “I am glad you guys gave me the opportunity to work with the county.”
In other news, the commission:
