“Team Bolding,” comprised of 16 Chilton and Coosa County 4-H members, spent a weekend attending the Pathfinder Space Camp at the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center.

The youth participated in a NASA and 4-H sponsored program that combined science, engineering and rocketry programs, including completing a shuttle mission to the space station (from lift off to splash down), conducted experiments on plant growth in outer space and tackled a repair job to the satellite array.

During their stay, the youth met several U.S. astronauts, experienced “walking on the moon,” built and shot rockets, traveled in the simulator to Mars and journeyed up the Space Shot. They captured first place in their Mission Completion and second place in the Space Quiz Bowl.

“When are we going again?” was the unanimous comment from all the youth attending.

Organizers hope to make this an annual event centered around 4-H Day at the Space Center each October.
