The Chilton County Chamber of Commerce hopes to connect local businesses and the community to create a family-friendly environment for trick-or-treating on Friday.
The Chamber is sponsoring the first “Trick or Treat Streets” event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, which is Halloween, in downtown Clanton.
Second Avenue North will be closed from Highway 31 to Fifth Street South, and Sixth Street North will be closed from Third Avenue North to First Avenue North for the event. Basically, the intersection adjacent to the Chilton County Courthouse and Clanton City Hall will be the center of activity, with candy to be had in each direction, stretching to Clanton First Baptist Church to the north, Peoples Southern Bank to the west and the Clanton fire and police stations to the south.
Local businesses will be set up at tables along the route with candy to hand out. Also, some businesses in the area will remain open during the event, including Main Street Cafe.
“We have gotten a great response from the downtown businesses and also from businesses county-wide,” said Brittani Ellison, executive assistant for the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce.
Anyone interested in renting a table along the route to hand out candy can participate for $10 and should contact the Chamber at 755-2400 or info@chiltonchamberonline.com.
Ellison said future versions of the event could include other attractions, including hay rides, face painting and games.
“The Chamber is excited to host this event, and with the success of this year and the support of the businesses and community, we look forward to continuing Trick or Treat Streets in the future,” she said.
