Verbena fell to Hubbertville on Friday, 28-14, despite a valiant effort from quarterback Tristan Short.
The running game produced only 49 yards for the Red Devils (3-6, 1-4), so it fell to Short and Juwan Tyus to advance the football.
Short completed nine passes in 16 attempts for 144 yards and two touchdowns, while Tyus caught six passes for 107 yards and the two scores.
Trey McCullough led the Verbena defense with 11.5 tackles, and Eric Mims had 10.5 tackles.
