Though two games remain on the schedule of each local varsity football team, this week’s games, the last region contests of the season, will likely determine the squads’ playoff fates.

There will be no drama for a few teams.

Chilton County High School and Jemison have been knocked out of playoff contention.

Maplesville, with an unblemished record, has the Class 1A, Region 4 championship wrapped up.

The Red Devils will host a first-round playoff game on Nov. 7.

The top two teams in each region host in the first round of the playoffs, while the third- and fourth-place teams travel in the first round.

Billingsley also has claimed its region championship, but the rest of Class 1A, Region is less certain.

Thorsby has claimed second place in Class 2A, Region 4, so the Rebels will host in the first round of the state playoffs.

Isabella would like to claim second place in the region but will need to defeat Notasulga on Friday. Notasulga and Isabella are tied for second place with identical 3-1 region records.

Verbena’s playoff hopes were dashed with last week’s loss to Notasulga.
