With a dominating 63-0 win over A.L. Johnson on Friday, Maplesville claimed its fifth consecutive regional title.
The contest got off to a bit of a slow start as the Red Devils (7-0 overall, 5-0 region) accounted for the only first-quarter points on a Terrance Dunlap eight-yard touchdown run.
John Schoener added the point-after, and Maplesville held an early 7-0 lead.
After forcing the Eagles (5-3, 3-2) into a three-and-out to start the second quarter, the Red Devils started their first drive of the second quarter from the Eagles’ 34-yard line.
Two plays later, Dunlap added his second score of the night, this time on a 14-yard touchdown run to give the Red Devils a 14-0 lead.
MHS went on to score on every possession of the second quarter.
Cole Spencer scored from one yard out to make the score 21-0, Dunlap ran in his third touchdown of the night on a 12-yard run to make the score 28-0, and Latravious Mixon scored on a 34-yard touchdown run to make the score 35-0 at the half.
Maplesville continued to score at will in the second half as Spencer added another Maplesville touchdown to start the third quarter to put the Devils up 42-0.
A Trevor Wallace interception set up the next Red Devils possession, and the offense needed only one play to add another touchdown, on a Dunlap 36-yard run to bring the score to 49-0 late in the third quarter.
Schoener added his name to the list of the Red Devils with touchdowns on a four-yard scoring run midway through the fourth quarter to put Maplesville up 55-0.
With 1:08 to play, Brandon Short scored the seventh consecutive touchdown for the Red Devils on a 12-yard touchdown run to bring the game to its final score.
“We played hard,” Maplesville coach Brent Hubbert said. “We challenged them at the half, and they came out and played a much better second half.”
Dunlap led the Red Devils on offense with 62 yards on five carries.
Spencer added 22 yards on six carries.
The Maplesville defense held the Eagles to just 49 total yards.
