The National Safety Council honored employees at the Tenaska Lindsay Hill Generating Station and the Tenaska Central Alabama Generating Station with seven awards for their 2013 safety performance.

Both facilities are located near Billingsley in Autauga County and employ many Chilton County residents.

Robert Threlkeld, manager of the plants, said in a press release he is proud of the employees’ ongoing commitment to outstanding safety performance.

“At Tenaska, our commitment to safety starts in the control room, on the plant site and well before any daily task is considered,” Threlkeld said. “We incorporate safe engineering design, employee awareness and ongoing training to build safety records that are among the best in the industry.”

Employees at Tenaska Lindsay Hill received the Superior Safety Performance Award, presented to plants that have achieved 10 consecutive years, operating at least 120 consecutive months, without incurring a U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) injury or illness resulting in days away from work (lost time).

Both Tenaska Lindsay Hill and Tenaska Central Alabama were awarded the Safety Leadership, Perfect Record and Occupational Excellence Achievement awards from NSC for 2013.

The Safety Leadership Award is presented for operating more than five consecutive years without a lost-time incident.

Tenaska Lindsay Hill employees have had zero lost-time injuries or illnesses since 2003, accumulating 532,224 working hours as of Dec. 31, 2013.

Tenaska Central Alabama employees have had zero lost-time injuries or illnesses since 2007 and have logged 362,690 safe working hours as of Dec. 31, 2013.

The Perfect Record Award recognizes companies that have completed at least 12 consecutive months without incurring a lost-time injury or illness.

In 2013, employees at Tenaska Lindsay Hill worked about 54,629 hours without a lost-time injury or illness, and employees at Tenaska Central Alabama worked 55,584 hours.

Both plants were honored with the Occupational Excellence Achievement awards for safety records equal to or better than 50 percent of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics rates for lost-time injuries and illnesses in the energy industry.

Tenaska Lindsay Hill and Tenaska Central Alabama generating stations are fueled by clean-burning natural gas and produce electricity for sale to BE Alabama LLC and Shell Energy North America (US), L.P., respectively, for sale in the region.

The plants are two of the largest Autauga County taxpayers, contributing about $21 million combined in property taxes through 2013.

The plants deliver about $11.2 million in salaries and payments to local contractors and vendors into the area economy each year.

Employees contributed 735 hours of volunteer service in 2013 to local community and charitable projects.

Tenaska, an energy company headquartered in Omaha, Neb., formed Tenaska Alabama Partners, L.P. and Tenaska Alabama II Partners, L.P. to build, own and operate the Tenaska Lindsay Hill Generating Station and the Tenaska Central Alabama Generating Station, respectively.

Affiliates of Tenaska serve as the managing partners and operators.
