The effort to construct a new hospital in Chilton County could receive a boost from a grant.

Clanton’s City Council voted unanimously at a regular meeting Monday to apply for a $200,000 grant through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs’ Appalachian Regional Commission Program.

The Community Development Block Grant would require a 20-percent match from the city and would be used for infrastructure related to the project, including water and sewer services.

In other business, the council:

•Approved another annual agreement with Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging for the organization to hold a meal program for seniors at the Clanton Senior Center, located off Enterprise Road.

•Approved a project to have a sprinkler system installed at E.M. Henry Head Start Center at a cost of $41,774.60.

•Agreed to allow the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce to hold a trick-or-treat event in downtown Clanton from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.

The city would close Second Avenue North from MorLyn’s to BB&T Bank and Sixth Street from Clanton First Baptist Church to the Clanton Fire Department.

•Agreed to pay a portion of the cost associated with the repair of the incinerator at the Chilton County Humane Society. The city would pay $8,000 toward the project.

•Approved the donation of the city’s old animal control truck to the Humane Society when the city’s new truck arrives.
