Clanton Fire Chief David Driver said CFD was dispatched around 6 p.m. Thursday to a house fire at 212 Martha Street, near West End Baptist Church.

The home was vacant at the time of the fire, and currently being renovated by individuals who had recently purchased the home, Driver said.

There was extensive damage to the home due to the fire burning through the roof on the back portion of the house.

“The fire was contained, but there was a lot of water damage to the home,” Driver said. “Thankfully, no one was in the home at the time of the fire. From what I was understanding, the owners of the home had recently purchased it, and were in the process of cleaning it to make it livable.”

Driver said it is unclear at this time what caused the fire.
