A new urgent care facility in Clanton is open for business.

Chilton Urgent Care opened Monday and served as the site of a ribbon cutting and grand opening event hosted by the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.

Chilton Urgent Care is open Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Chilton Urgent Care Chief Executive Officer Michael Bruce said he and his partners’ primary goal with the facility is to provide after-hours urgent care to local residents in light of the county not having a hospital yet.

Chilton Urgent Care will be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bruce said he tried to get involved with the potential acquisition of Chilton Medical Center before it closed in 2012 but eventually launched the project to build an urgent care facility instead.

“We did this as an alternative for health care in the community,” Bruce said.

In addition to Chilton Urgent Care, Bruce and his partners, Dr. Gerald Sweeney and Dr. Lee England, own Lake Martin Hospital, Georgiana Medical Center and Elmore Community Hospital and Wetumpka Urgent Care.

Modeled after Wetumpka Urgent Care, Chilton Urgent Care offers patient care including small procedures, such as toenail removal; radiology, such as X-rays and ultrasounds; outpatient lab work; and stabilization for trauma patients needing transport to a hospital.

The facility is not designed to handle acute traumas, such as heart attacks.

“If it requires an ambulance, it doesn’t need to come here,” Sweeney said. “We can handle small operations, lacerations and chest pains. It’s an office whose development is in progress.”

Bruce said four or five doctors would rotate days working at the facility, with one or two doctors at the facility each day.

“We may add nurse practitioners and specialists based on need,” Bruce said.

Although doctors mostly from Wetumpka comprise the current staff, Bruce said he would like to add Chilton County doctors to the staff.

“We want to work with the community,” Bruce said. “We encourage patients to see their established doctors.”

The facility was built by Central Contracting out of Wetumpka and consists of eight exam rooms, one procedure room, lab room, X-ray area, trauma stabilization area for ambulance pick-up, nurses’ station, business office with patient check-in and check-out services and a triage area.

“We’re excited for this business,” Chamber of Commerce Executive Assistant Brittani Ellison said. “It’s very much-needed here.”

Chilton Urgent Care is located at 1210 Seventh St. S., next to Chilton County High School, in Clanton.
